Nori the Koala
A serene koala built for users whose practice is closer to "sleep more" than "do more."
- sleep tracking primary users
- wind-down routines
- people who find Koko too active and want quieter still
Personality
Nori is the koala. The animation cycles are even slower than Koko's, with longer hold poses and the occasional slow blink. Koalas are famously sleepy, and Nori leans into that without becoming inert.
Sleep tab users tend to pick Nori. The fit is intuitive: a pet that visually models rest while you log your bedtime. During the Sleep Ceremony, Nori is the pet with the longest fade-to-still animation, which reads as restful rather than abrupt.
Stillness training also pairs well. Nori sits with you while you sit, and the visual stillness becomes a small reinforcement rather than a distraction.
Evolution stages
Every Hope pet evolves through four stages as your practice grows. The shape changes; the relationship does not.
-
1. Baby
Joey
A small koala visible from a pouch-like resting pose. The joey-stage Nori is the most expressive frame of an otherwise calm pet.
-
2. Young
Young koala
Limbs reach full length. The classic upright resting pose settles in.
-
3. Adult
Adult koala
Full-grown Nori. Animation cycles slow further. The signature ear shape and grey coat are at their most readable.
-
4. Sage
Sage koala
Subtle coat detailing indicates many seasons of practice. Pose holds are at their longest in the pet roster.
Role in the practice
Paired primarily with the Sleep Ceremony, stillness training, and the wind-down end of the practice cycle. Less responsive on the focus side, by design.
Inside the Hope iOS app
Nori appears on the Pet tab, widgets, and Dynamic Island. During the Sleep Ceremony, she has a dedicated fade animation that ties into the screen dim sequence. Stillness training sessions use a low-energy variant of her pose.

- Will Nori feel boring during the day?
- If your practice is mostly focus and habit logging, yes. Pick Milo, Kira, or Luna for daytime use. Nori is built for the rest end of the practice cycle. The choice is reversible at any time.
- Is Nori based on a specific koala?
- No. The visual is a generic koala simplified for screen rendering. We did not source the design from a specific animal or location.
- Can Nori improve my actual sleep?
- No. Sleep tracking and the Sleep Ceremony tools improve sleep behaviour. Nori is the visual companion. The practice is what moves the needle, not the pet.
