Frequently asked questions.
Plain answers. No marketing fluff. If something is not here, email help@hopewellness.app.
- Is my data private?
- Completely. hope. is device-only. Everything stays on your iPhone. No accounts, no servers that store your practice data, no third-party cloud. Nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly opt in to iCloud key-value sync (Apple-only, end-to-end encrypted).
- Are there subscriptions or recurring charges?
- No. hope. is a free download with optional one-time in-app purchases (themes, lofi soundscapes, notification tones, and the Luna Island add-on). Every purchase is permanent and tied to your Apple ID. Nothing auto-renews. Tap "Restore Purchases" in Settings to recover them on a new device.
- Does hope. work offline?
- Yes, fully. All 6 core meditation methods (plus box breathing and cognitive defusion), 9 focus modes, all 8 pets, sleep tracking, stillness training, and habit logging work without an internet connection.
- What age is hope. suitable for?
- Rated 4+ on the App Store. Designed for adults but the calm, non-stimulating nature makes it suitable for older children with parental guidance.
- What languages is hope. available in?
- English at launch. Additional languages are planned as the app grows (Japanese, German, Korean, French, Portuguese, and Turkish are next, in that priority order). Translation is staged, not yet shipped.
- Is the full app really free?
- All 6 core meditation methods (plus box breathing and cognitive defusion), all 8 companion pets, the deep focus timer with 9 modes and 4 ambient soundscapes, morning and night routines, habit tracking, sleep tracking and insights, 30-level stillness training, 50 achievements, 18 quests, 10 rotating weekly challenges, 100 legend stories: all free forever. Optional one-time purchases unlock cosmetic extras only (more themes, lofi soundscapes, notification tones, Luna Island add-on). The practice itself is never paywalled.
- How do I contact support?
- We are a small team and we read every message. Email us at help@hopewellness.app. We typically respond within one business day.
- Do I need to sign in to use hope.?
- No. Sign in with Apple is optional. You can fully explore the app as a guest. Signing in lets you restore your purchases and (optionally) sync your streaks, coins, and pet across devices via your private iCloud key-value store. No password, no email collection.
- Does hope. have widgets and Lock Screen support?
- Yes. 8 home-screen and Lock Screen widgets covering streak, habits, focus, mood, your pet, daily quote, breathing prompt, and a quick-glance dashboard. Pets also live on the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen via Live Activities, reacting to your sessions in real time.
- Is hope. on iPad?
- Currently iPhone only. iPad-optimized layouts are planned but not shipping yet.
- What does my coin balance do? Is it real money?
- Coins are an in-app currency you earn by focusing, meditating, completing quests, and keeping streaks. You spend them on pet care, accessories, focus rooms, and other cosmetic items. They are not real money. Optional consumable coin packs are available, but every coin can be earned for free through practice.
- Can I delete my data?
- Yes. Delete the app and all data is gone, by design. There is no backend that holds your data. Optional iCloud sync data lives in your Apple account and follows Apple's deletion policies.
- How is hope. different from Calm, Headspace, Finch, or Forest?
- Calm and Headspace are subscription content libraries. Finch is a pet-led mental health app. Forest is a focus-only timer. hope. bundles meditation, focus, sleep, habits, stillness, breath, and a pet companion in one free app with no subscription. We wrote longer comparisons for Calm, Headspace, and Forest in the blog.
- Does hope. send guilt notifications when I miss a day?
- No. Notifications are minimal and opt-in. Streak counters are optional and can be hidden entirely. We deliberately did not build the "you broke your streak" pattern.
- Is hope. associated with a religion or specific lineage?
- No. hope. is non-denominational. Meditation techniques are drawn from secular contemplative practice. Use whatever framework matters to you.
