Can't find what you're looking for? Try these common fixes.

App won't open or keeps crashing

Try these steps in order:

  1. Force quit the app: Swipe up from the bottom (iPhone X+) or double-tap Home (iPhone 8 and earlier) and swipe up on hope. to close it.
  2. Wait 10 seconds, then open hope. again.
  3. Restart your device: Turn your iPhone/iPad off and on again.
  4. Reinstall the app: Delete hope. from your home screen, then download it fresh from the App Store. Your data is stored locally, so if you're signed in via iCloud backup, it will restore automatically.

Pet is not growing or progressing

Your pet grows by completing meditation sessions and maintaining a practice streak. Check these things:

  • Completed sessions: Make sure you're finishing full meditation sessions (not just starting them). Sessions must be completed to count.
  • Practice streak: Check your streak in the app's main screen. If your streak is 0, you need to start a new session today.
  • Daily practice: Pet growth is tied to your daily practice consistency. Practice at least once per day to maintain your streak.

If your pet isn't growing despite completed sessions, try force-quitting and reopening the app.

Purchases not showing up after reinstall or new device

hope. has no subscriptions — all purchases are one-time and tied to your Apple ID. If you reinstall the app or switch devices, use Restore Purchases:

  1. Open hope. → Settings → Restore Purchases. This pulls your purchase history from Apple and re-unlocks every theme, soundscape, notification tone, and bundle you previously owned.
  2. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID that made the original purchase. Go to iOS Settings → [Your Name] and confirm the correct Apple ID is active.
  3. Consumable coins don't restore by design — they're spent in-app and cannot be re-credited. Only non-consumable purchases (themes, sounds, icons, bundles) restore.

If Restore Purchases doesn't bring back items you know you bought, email us the approximate purchase date and we'll help Apple trace the transaction.

Lost my data after switching phones or reinstalling

Why this happened: hope. stores all data locally on your device. If you switch phones without backing up your app data via iCloud, your sessions, journal entries, and pet data cannot be recovered.

How to prevent it in the future:

  1. Before switching devices, enable iCloud backup on your current iPhone: Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Turn On.
  2. Make sure a backup completes before switching devices. Let your phone back up to iCloud (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Back Up Now).
  3. On your new device, sign in with the same Apple ID and restore from backup. hope. will restore app data automatically.

Unfortunately, if you've already switched devices without backing up, we cannot recover your data. hope. has no server-side backup.

Apple Health data not syncing

Check permissions: Go to Settings → Privacy → Health and make sure hope. is listed with toggles enabled for:

  • Read: Steps, Mindfulness Minutes (whatever you want hope. to read from Health)
  • Write: Mindfulness Sessions (so hope. can save your sessions to Health)

To enable: If toggles are off, tap them on. If hope. doesn't appear in the Health app's list, try:

  1. Force quit hope. and reopen it.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Reinstall hope. from the App Store.

Note: Health sync happens in the background. Allow a few minutes for new sessions to appear in Health after you finish them in hope.

Audio/sounds too quiet or not playing

Check ringer vs. media volume: There are two volume controls on your iPhone:

  • Ring/Silent toggle (side button): This controls ringer volume for calls and notifications, not app audio.
  • Media volume (+ and − buttons): This controls app audio. Press + while hope. is playing to increase media volume.

During a meditation session: Use the volume buttons (+ to increase) to adjust hope. audio. The Ring/Silent toggle won't affect meditation audio.

Check app audio settings: In hope. Settings, make sure audio is not muted and volume is turned up.

I bought something by mistake. What now?

hope. has no subscriptions — nothing to cancel. All purchases are one-time. If you bought something by accident, Apple can issue a refund:

  1. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Find the hope. purchase.
  3. Choose "Report a Problem" → select the reason (e.g. accidental purchase).
  4. Submit. Apple reviews and responds directly — typically within a few days.

Apple has sole discretion over refunds. hope. cannot approve, deny, or reverse a charge.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not hope. All charges (subscriptions and in-app purchases) can be disputed or refunded through Apple:

  1. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Find the hope. charge you want to dispute.
  4. Click "Report a Problem" and select your reason (accidental charge, didn't mean to buy, etc.).
  5. Submit. Apple will review and respond within 5 business days.

Subscription refunds: Typically granted for purchases within 14 days. After that, Apple rarely refunds (this is their standard policy).

Is my data private and secure?

Yes. All your meditation sessions, journal entries, and pet data are stored locally on your device, encrypted by iOS. We have no servers, no cloud backup, and no way to access your data. Your privacy is by design.

Can I use hope. without paying?

Yes. hope. has a free version with core meditation sessions and pet features. Premium subscriptions unlock additional meditations, advanced insights, and cosmetic customization. You don't need to subscribe to enjoy hope.

Does hope. work offline?

Yes, completely. hope. works fully offline. All meditations, your pet, journal, and history are stored on your device. You never need an internet connection to use hope.

Is hope. available on Android?

hope. is currently available on iOS only. We're always exploring ways to expand, so stay tuned.

No. hope. is a wellness app for meditation, habit tracking, and personal reflection. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
